3rd March, 2009 - Oh dear, it's nice to be recognised and yet, it's daunting to be getting myself into more community work, this time with the residence association. Been giving my feedback and comments on the many topics of discussion in the yahoo group relating to recent happenings at our residential area. Somehow, my writings caught the attention of the main committee members :-)Dear Odelia,
Would you be interested to join the committee ? If yes, may I nominate you for Committee 2009/2010 ? We are looking for members who can write to help fill up the Secretary post. The role of the Secretary is to coordinate meetings, remind committee members to attend meetings, minutes-taking, handle official correspondence of the residence association, membership records (new members/ terminated members/ issue house badges/car stickers), filing with Registrar of Societies and other related matters. Don’t worry, you will have assistance from us. We need the good minutes-writing the most and I have no doubts that you will do well in this area.

Maybe a good avenue to get to know my neighbours better. Settled in for more than a year now and yet I seldom mix around with them except for the immediate adjoining neighbours. That too was because of my kids' mingling time with their kids at the playground, playing team games. Great to see the kids making themselves at home with the neighbourhood friends.
Talking about my immediate neighbours, well, the wife next door has been giving little gifts in the form of ais-krim potong : sweet corn flavoured, red bean flavoured as well as peanut flavoured. Very nice of her. Oh yes, her home-made salty plum juice was really tasty too, for a refreshing change. A barbie doll for my little Joey made her a smiling from ear to ear.
The other immediate neighbour, an expatriate couple, once sent over a home-baked chocolate brownies. Last Christmas, they also sent us a little gift each for the kids and myself, a set of intricate coasters from India. Hmmm ... I returned their thoughtful gifts in the form of a crate of oranges during the last Chinese New Year celebration. Well, well, well ... I'll send them some home-made longan jelly the next time then ^_^
So thankful for having nice neighbours like these :-)
