My Success Journal - 26 May 2008

1. Today, I received a heart warming message from PK : "I really want to TQ for spending your golden time to help me to have a millionaire mind. TQ TQ TQ. This course is my best birthday gift. I am sure on this birthday my wishes are very powerful, so wish you really be a millionaire. You deserve it. That's for sure. My best sister forever!" My reply : Wow! To receive this truly made my day bro! A millionaire I will be without a doubt. U have a millionaire mind ! Luv, Odelia.

2. Paid a visit to mom this evening. Helped out in the kitchen, the main dish for dinner was ginger chicken in rice wine, one of my favourite ! She was very happy to know that I am coming over for dinner and purposely cook my favourite dish ... wow ... I told her I would try to see her more often. Mom also mentioned that, don't know why her appetite is really good today, must be because I am there ! Felt so good ! Mom is seldom expressive of her love but today, when she said this, I felt terribly high in spirit, warm and loved ^_^

My Success Journal - 23 May 2008

1. Today, I managed to find the venue for the Millionaire Mind Intensive Course without getting lost ! Lucky thing I got a friend to draw me a map the night before ! The seminar itself was more of a refresher course as this is the 2nd time I am attending. Somehow, learnt new things in a different perspective from what I learnt in November last year. Glad I signed up for this 2nd round. Energy level was at a full 10 ! Did better in the money associations exercise and the belief questionaire this round i.e. better grasp of the concept compared to when I did in November last year. Decided to really practise the World's Easiest & Most Effective Money Management System - The Money Jars. Way to go, Odelia !

2. Stood up for declarations, had a lot of fun and dance as well, met many new friends, the positive energy created was simply great ! Cheered and cheered and cheered lots and lots of time.

3. A friend dropped by to pick me up and we had a lovely evening by the koi pond, chatting away, with me dipping both my feet into the pond and for the first time, felt the under-water current which tickles and soothes my feet, somehow felt very relaxed. Hmm... will try that again :-)

My Success Journal - 21 May 2008

1. Today, at work, I bullied the poor accountant : make sure you get this and this and this done for me by certain certain time and date. If not, I'll just pull out, no choice. Ha ha ha ... poor fellow ... been working till late at night and still cannot figure out ! No pain no gain ... next audit, he'll be better prepared, I am sure. Sometimes just have to be Ms. 'NotSoNice' :-)

2. Took a dip in the swimming pool again, despite the drizzle. Glorious sky ! Feels like on Cloud 9, floating on my back ... best relaxing way to enjoy the natural blue sky, spotting the coconut leaves swaying in the light breeze as if singing a lullaby to me ... the feeling is simply so ... ummpphhh ! Gotta do this again !

3. Invited myself to dinner at Dennis' place. He's a good cook. Enjoyed the simple meal and most of all, the company of someone friendly and hospitable. Feels much at home. Even invited myself to dinner at his place again tomorrow to which he said : The pleasure is mine. Do come ! Taking too much for granted? No lah, that's just the likeable me, ha ha ... that's what friends are for, right?

4. Pauline felt heavy after the dinner and walked me home. How nice. Had some light moment feeding the koi and shared with her some of my latest happy stories. Wow !

My Success Journal - 20 May 2008

1. Today is my first day at serious work after 1 whole week of lazing around, finally ! Yes ... I am back ! Vigorously full of energy. Had a very productive day ... targetting to finish the job before end of the month. No sweat ^-^

2. Went for a swim, after many days, now that the swimming pool maintenance work is done .. the water is clear, cool and did many laps ... ha ... to make up for lost exercise for the past few days ! Feels great, once again, able to flex my muscles and feel the ripples against my whole body ^_^

3. Had dinner at the Sri Petaling pasar malam together with Jess and Catherine. Enjoyed hawker food : fried kueh teow, sesame balls in soya bean ... very yummy ... can try again the next round :-) Update each other on all the girls' stuff and a lively chat too. It's Jess' birthday soon and she's planning to go for clubbing at the end of the month, me invited of course ! Kind of excited and looking forward to it as I can't really remember when was the last time I did that. Must be many many months already, perhaps years !

My Success Journal - 19 May 2008

1. Today is Wesak Day. Woke up early and went to the temple in Jalan Bot for prayers together with the kids. Vegetarian breakfast was simple and yummy :-) All had fun... for children : colouring competition - Bob coloured well, hmm... didn't quite realise he could really sit down, concentrate and finish off his artpiece beautifully ... must have inherited his mummy's genes ... ha ha ! All the kids got gifts for successfully finishing off their colouring, happy, got McDonald toys and lots of candies. Tried our hands on the mini-darts as well and had fun at trying to outbeat each other :-) Next was the mini-chinese chess game. Dash seem to play better than his mummy who doesn't even know head and tail of the game ... what a shame ! When Bob insisted to play chess with mummy, mummy had to 'convert' the chess game into 'test your memory' game ! Well, Bob did enjoy his game with mummy, nevertheless :-) Also did flower and candle offerings to Buddha and had a go at 'bathing' the little buddha together will all the kids. Prayed for the well-being, health and happiness for loved ones ... reflecting on the blessings bestowed on me thy far ^_^

My Success Journal - 18 May 2008

1. Woke up to the cheerful smile of Dash, wishing me a very 'good morning mummy'. Bob also gave me a morning hug as I was about to wake up. What a great way to start the day! Had brownies and fresh milk for breakfast, been a long time since I enjoyed my morning breakfast this way :-). Finished reading Paulo Coelho's Eleven Minutes. Liked the last few pages :-)

2. Dash, Jenny and Jasmine started their advance swimming class today. Azmi, the swimming instructor commented that they should be fine to proceed, stressing that Dash will have to behave himself. Hmm...

My Success Journal - 17 May 2008

1. Finished reading Paulo Coelho's Fifth Mountain. Liked a particular phrase which I find really true, at least as far as I am concerned : A child can always teach an adult 3 things - to be happy for no reason, to always be busy with something, and to know how to demand with all his might that which he desires. Now reading Paulo's Eleven Minutes ... interesting.

2. Happily allowed my 2 elder girls to attend their friend's birthday party after making sure they promise to behave, to have fun and to want to come home once the party is over not later than 9pm. Sent them there, all were in high spirits and managed to fetch them home at the promised time. Glad that they enjoyed themselves :-)

3. Had my NGO friends over for dinner. Dinner was lively, with a friend's special curry chicken recipe being the main dish. Spent time just catching up with each other after so many months. Lively chat and all. The kids also had fun playing with toys and feeding the koi :-)

4. A newly acquainted friend popped by my place to spend time with me, had a very comfortable chat until the wee hours !

2. Bought some vegetables from the Jinjang wet market, now enjoying my new morning juice from a mix of green apple, celery and small bittergourds. Tastes just great, knowing it is going to give my instestines a proper cleanse, feels great too :-). Gave instruction for kakak to make me another glass of juice from a mix of tomato, red apple, carrot and lemon in the afternoon : for blood circulation. Just something I learnt from Beatrice and mom on Mother's Day. Hope to make this a routine thing - healthy stuff, good for my well-being ^_^

3. Paid a visit to my dentist and had my slightly chipped front tooth smoothened out. Told the dentist I didn't want to cut somebody's tongue and she gave me a knowing big smile. Feels great to bring a smile to someone early in the morning !

4. Had a lovely time catching up with a friend/business associate at Secret Recipe for lunch.

5. Had a dinner-picnic at the mamak stall near the lake and hiked up Bukit Komanwel with all the kids. Collected some flowers and the kids had a good time watching the racing event at the stadium from the top of the hill.

1. Went for community service at a church in Jln Templer, introduced to the CHW training participants as the Finance Minister for HEI ! Managed to successfully disbursed claims to the Burmese and observed the training in progress. Found out about some of the horror real life stories of the participants - cyclone victim, eye witness to murder of husband, army slavery, etc. Feels so very lucky compared to these poor but brave souls. Makes me appreciate more of life.

2. Lent a listening ear to a close girlfriend who is going through some emotional torture.

3. Took a much needed nap after the non-sleep yesterday, finishing up an assignment due. Now feels much fresher :-)

My Success Journal - 11 May 2008

1. It's mother's day ! At the Buddhist class today, the kids learnt to create nice patterns of salt coloured with chalks poured into clear empty bottles. Lovely Mother's Day presents from my two boys. Complimented Dash and Bob with 'Wow! that's very nice. Mummy loves it so much. Thank you' and gave them a big bear hug each. So heart warming to see them grinning from ear to ear, happy that mummy loves their little gifts !

2. Managed to squeeze in some work today while waiting for the kids at the Buddhist class.

3. Dash suggested to create a "Mother's Day Collection" to which I heartily said : YES ! That's a very good idea, can you help mummy with that? So, he cleared a section of my room cupboard and put in all my Mother's Day gifts. So lovely. Another hug and kiss for Dash, who showed me his toothy grins ! Oh ... what a lovely day !

4. Had a great time at mom's place. Steamboat and BBQ was the day's menu. I contributed vegetables this round as I did not have the luxury of time to actually cook since I was out there with my kids at the Buddhist and swimming classes. Gave mom my love letter, nicely wrapped in pink. She has yet to open and read it by the time we left. Hope she loves it. My best present for her by far I think :-)
Dear Mama,

Today, while taking my shower after my morning swim, I was reflecting on my journey with you, a journey of 38 years. I really took a very long shower, walking down memory lane as best I could remember you, mama. Today, I have decided to write you a love letter.

You told me I was born abridged, my feet came out first and somehow I managed to squeeze out of your womb a healthy bouncy baby girl, wailing loud and clear ! Thank you mama, for bringing me into this world.

You were and still are our big big umbrella, an umbrella so big that you had all of us, all the 6 of us under your protection, even when we are grown ups now. You still care so much. I really admire your energy, mama, after all these years. Today, I want to hold your hand and walk down memory lane with me.

Those days in the village, before we moved to KL, were carefree days for me, I remember well. I would roam about the village and get myself dirty all over, playing with sand and mud, roughing it out with the village boys, getting into fights and all the tomboy stuff. You would scold me so hard but you also cleaned me up, powder me and change me. Those were the days ... you taught me how to wash the dishes, wash the cloths, sweep and mop the floor, boil water, clean vegetables, fry eggs and all stuff that girls were supposed to learn.

When papa said, girls do not need a high education, you taught me the A, B, C and 1, 2, 3. You would praise me for being a good copier. I knew you were so proud of me. I was able to write chinese characters, even the difficult ones. During the numerous drives we had together when papa bought his car, you would ask me to add up the numbers displayed on the various number plates all cars have. That was how I discovered maths in an interesting way. Thank you mama, for being the best teacher you knew how.

When you and papa moved to KL where papa started his wholesale fish business at the market now known as Central Market, you brought me along, leaving behind my 3 elder sisters. I am so blessed. Even though you were a stranger in KL back then, you braved yourself and got me to follow a friend you met to a non-Chinese school, I was terrified, for I do not understand a word the teachers and classmates were talking. Cantonese and English were so foreign to me. Somehow I learnt. Still remember those days in kindergarten when you would walk with me to and from kindergarten. When I asked you "Mama, today teacher said I am good. What does that mean?" and you just gave me a smile and explained to me, it means "serves you right"! I actually believed you !

I still remember your strict ways with us when I was a little girl. I was terrified every time you raise your voice, I would open my ears big big for your footsteps, the jingles you made when you walk, the anklet you had on your feet, kind of gave you away. I remember the numerous times I wet the bed, not on purpose, I just had a tough time controlling my bladder. I am so sorry I made you change the bedsheet everytime I did that. Well, luckily the bed then had a plastic cover, I guess it must be the genius in you. The many nights I slept in your bed, clinging to you, listening to the midnight ghost stories from the redifussion, frightened and yet enjoying the thrills of the eerie sounds. The days when all of us would rush to stand very near to the redifussion every time there is a special series on air, be it of love, of mysteries, of jokes... that was something I would remember for life. Life was so much simpler then.

Though we were poor back then, you always give us the best. You saved the occasional chicken drumsticks, for us, never for yourself. You made us hot pancakes for breakfast. Really miss your hot pancakes, mama. I was a sickly child, always coughing, I made you worried, you had to drag me to the doctors and when nothing seem to work, you relentlessly fed me with cod liver oil. I used to hate it so much. The smell was terrible, it stinks so much, I vomitted lots of time. You cleaned me up. I know I must have been a nuisance.

You would walk the miles to the wet market to buy vegetables, even when it's a heavy load, you would walk the miles back, not caring if your muscles ache and that your shoulders would slant to one side because you wanted to save on the bus fare. You would go the extra miles to save. You made papa give us monthly school allowances instead of daily pocket money. That really helped me plan my spending and get into the habit of saving money. Thank you mama, for teaching us to save for the rainy days. Until today, you are still collecting rain water whenever it rains, just so that we can recycle the rain water. You have taught me a great lesson, mama.

During my primary school days, I remember loathing to bring my tumbler to school. You gave me my baby milk bottle instead of the fancy ones all my classmates were having ! I really hated it so much and had to hide just to take a sip of water from that baby milk bottle ! One day, when my classmate discovered that I drank from a baby milk bottle, I was brutally laughed at, I wished I could dig a hole underground and hid there forever ! Now, I could laugh at myself thinking of those embarassing moments ! Thank you mama, for teaching me the value of making the best out of the little comfort we had ...

When times were better, when papa could afford all the great comforts in life, when papa bought our big new house, when papa got all his children a brand new car each, you never forget your roots. You still saved. You were and still are the family's saviour. The numerous times when papa's business got into financial crisis, you digged into your savings, your hard to come by savings! I salute you, mama... for being the generous you.

Those selfless acts ... you taught me the real meaning of siblinghood. I still remember those days when your sisters gave birth to their little babies. You were there for them. You became more than their confinement lady. You cooked special confinement food for your sisters. You bathed their little darlings. You love your sisters unconditionally. You became their real big sister, a mother to them even. You are their beloved big sister. I can see that. I can understand why you are so much respected by them, everyone of your brothers and sisters. I am so very proud of you, mama.

When I was a teenager, I must have worried you so much. I still remember the day when you throw a birthday party for me at our new home back then when I turned sweet 16. First came the disco lights, then all sorts of guys turned up, some in their rowdy motor bikes ! You pulled me to a side and said "I thought all your friends are girls. I thought I sent you to an all-girls' school. Where the hell did you get to know so many boys?" Ha ha ... those were my wild days, mama. Thank you so much for trusting me and for the freedom you gave me. Your beloved little daughter turned out alright, didn't I?

When I was in college and started serious dating, you were so worried about the kind of guy I was dating that you actually got me to bring him home to be my brother's room-mate ! Thank you mama, for giving me and the family the opportunity to see the real him, for giving me the freedom of choice to marry my first lover. You must be so hurt the day I announced my intention to divorce and I knew you felt really angry at my ex but I want you to know that I am happier now than ever. Thank you mama, for bringing me up as an independent woman, for respecting and blessing the choices I made in life.

When I was down with dengue in Tawakal, you were dead worried when I had to be admitted into Tawakal Hospital's ICU. You prayed and prayed. When the sinseh told you that I only have a 50:50 chance, you must have felt devastated. That day, I mentioned to you, I will not give up so easily, I am a fighter, I still had a lot more to look forward to in life, I want to get married and bear children... you smiled amidst your tears. Those moments made me realise the love of a great mommy for her sick child... Thank you mama, for taking good care of me.

That one year I stayed with you during my Hepatitis C treatment, you made me fresh fruit juices every morning and evening, you cooked special meals for me, you made sure I rest and relax, you made me so comfortable ... I felt so pampered and loved ! The days when I had to work late amidst my treatment, you nagged and nagged. I knew you meant well. Thank you mama, for reminding me to take very good care of myself. You must take very good care of yourself too, mama.

Today, reflecting on those sweet memories, I realised I am so blessed to have you as my mama. Given a choice, I would definitely choose you as my mama all over again.

Thank you mama, for all the love and care you gave me. I LOVE YOU SO SO MUCH !!!!

Happy Mother's Day :-)

Your beloved daughter,Odelia

My Success Journal - 4 May 2008

1. Woke up early and prepared a hot pot of coffee for the rest of my colleagues, now my good friends to warm their body before we start the day. Drove to Sungai Palas Tea Plantation and we stopped by a number of good spots for phototaking. Love the greeneries and the vast span of tea plants, even striked a few interesting poses. The road leading to the plantation was winding and narrow, I had to horn horn to warn the oncoming vehicles that we are coming dangerously near. Overall, a smooth drive and managed to skillfully manouver our way up and down the hill. Had a good light meal of peppermint tea with tuna sandwich and thick chocolate cake :-)

2. Went in search of roti cheese that I miss so much ! Luck was not on my side this time, apparently the shop selling the roti cheese is no longer in operation since the last time I visited them. But, we managed to buy the last 2 sticks of yau car kuai and had a hearty breakfast of century egg porridge with minced meat and claypot rat noodle. Was yummy, can't complain :-)

3. Then, it's shopping time ! Bought flowers, lots of vegetables, crystal corns, royal honey, cameron apples, dried preserved cameron apple/rose/passion fruit/bittergourd ... had a great time bargaining and testing the food :-)

4. Drove all the way back to KL in good timing, becoming an expert in the winding drive and had dinner at Sri Gombak, a sumptous servings of herbal chicken in coconut, curry wild boar, sambal kangkung, stir-fry spinach, yellow wine chicken and assam stringray, all for a mere RM46 !

5. All the kids gave me a big bear hug each when I reached home. Hmm... my home sweet home. Nice :-)

1. All 7 of us boarded my Innova and started our journey on time. All were in high spirit and Cat, the chatterbox literally kept everyone entertained with her jokes, non-stop ! The drive was smooth. Reached Brinchang before noon and checked into Parkland Apartment. Had so many meals, can hardly keep track of how much we ate ! Roasted duck, char siew, siew yok, century egg porridge, crystal corns, strawberry dipped in chocolates, strawberry strudels, passion fruit juice, deep-fried mushroom, deep-fried vegetables, sweet potato balls, organic steamboat dishes ... Sinful, yes, but irresistible woh :-)

2. Had a real good chat during the night about our journey in the Company and of the ups and downs during my days with the Company. Shelley delivered her speech and thanked me for my contributions to the Company and appreciate the time we had together as colleagues.

My Success Journal - 2 May 2008

1. Woke up groggy, Dash rushed me and I had to drag my feet out of bed ! Still managed to send them to school on time. Bought kampung chicken drumsticks, some fish balls and fish cake at the wet market near the school. Good to see my old neighbours. They still remember me and commented on how good I look ! Hmm ... nice warm soya bean without sugar and wanton mee for breakfast, definitely healthier than roti canai and teh tarik :-)

2. Swam my 10 laps at the clubhouse. No other swimmers at that hour. Had the whole pool to myself. Felt so good to flex my tired muscles in the water. Another friend joined me in the swimming pool, had lunch at her home and went for Iron Man. Enjoyed the show... fetched the kids back from school in good timing. Dash reported his As he scored for his last exam. Bob just need to buck up on his mandarin :-) Both were in high spirit, after their taekwando class.

3. I managed to rent out my apartment after showing it to the new tenant ! Passive income resumed :-)

4. Jess came over for dinner. Cat and Jess stayed overnight at my place. Both kept my boys company till around midnight, playing UNO. Bob was such a chatterbox and was hyperactvie. I had to scoop him up and tuck him into his own bed after much persuasion and negotiation !

My Success Journal - 1 May 2008

1. Today, Meng gave me a gift in the form of a book : 'Harry Potter an the Deathly Hallows' by J.K Rowling in it's special box ! Thank you so much, Meng. My boys would love it, but I'll be the one reading it first :-)

2. Attended the Wealth Expo in Singapore : Took a good look at market prediction for 2008 by Dr Clemen Chiang ... given insights into options trading and what the Traders International do. Hmm... learnt something today :-)

3. I bought (13!) books at the MPH warehouse sale in Hall 4 at Singapore Expo : mostly titles by Paulo Coelho. I found "An hour to live, An hour to love" by Richard Carlson (author of the Don't Sweat the Small Stuff Series) so fascinating that I couldn't help finish reading it during lunch break today ! "If you had one hour to live an could make just one phone call, who would it be to, what would you say, and why are you waiting?". Also read "Hugs for Single Moms" : A gentle touch, a reassuring smile, words of warm encouragement-these are just a few of the gifts that moms give every day. And when that mom is a single mom, her courage, commitment and determination shine doubly bright in every gift of herself - found it to be an uplifting book indeed !
