Mid-Autumn Festival

9th September, 2008 – I am going to miss celebrating Mooncake Festival with the kids this year. Flying off to Cambodia soon, been looking forward to this trip planned since May 2008! Told the kids mommy is going away to take photos ... lest they complain for not taking them along if they know it’s going to be a holiday trip! So, to compensate (or rather, it was more to take away the guilt than anything else!!!), seized the opportunity to have an early celebration.

Together with the kids, we lit up the lanterns and hang them around our trees in the front garden. Lovely. The kids simply love lighting up the candles, arrange them in various shapes. Even Devi, my ever-pleasant domestic helper enjoyed the special moment with a smile on her face! When Jasmine suggested to have a photo taken, just Devi and Jasmine, Devi must have felt the warmth.

Jenny’s idea of arranging the candles into a love shape was immediately welcomed and WOW! It turned out lovely, didn’t it? Could not resist taking a snapshot ^_^

Have always loved the traditional paper lanterns, kinda reminded me of my own childhood days .... ^_^. Mom used to painstakingly make lanterns out of milo tins, cutting through the iron (or is it aluminium?) in stripes and hammering the stripes to make sure it will not cut our tender hands. At that time, I used to sulk, thinking ... we are poor, no money to buy proper lanterns, so have to settle for these cheap homemade ones ... how embarrassing it must be compared to my friends’ and neighbours’ beautiful lanterns !!! How wrong I was ! When my friends’ lanterns started getting burnt, I realised : mine will never get burnt ! Wow ! What a genius mom I have ! Starting from that moment, I always look forward to showing off my ‘will-never-get burnt’ lantern ... I would say, my ‘mommy loves me’ lantern ^_^ Thank you mama, for the beautiful memory and love you have shown me :-)
